Chain
of Craters Road
From the Volcano National Park visitor center, to the
lava flow, it is a 45 minute drive down Chain of Craters
Road. The drive is extraordinarily amazing as you
drive through the huge old lava fields. There are
a few pull-off's which allow you to gaze over the lava
fields, down the mountain, and into the ocean.
Pictured here is a road that was constructed through
tons and tons of lava.
We are about 15 minutes away from the lava flow.
We pulled off to the side of the road to get a great
view of where the lava is flowing into the ocean.
You can see the steam in the distance. It is
extremely dangerous to go where the lava flows directly
into the ocean because the ground is
extremely unstable, and occasionally falls into the
ocean without warning. Some people recently died
as they fell victim to falling into the ocean from the
unstable lava.
This
is a shot of us being near the base of the volcano
looking up to where you see the old lava flows coming
down the side of the mountain.
